Ergonomic, split and other weird keyboards

Rules

Keep it ergo

Posts must be of/about keyboards that have a clear delineation between the left and right halves of the keyboard, column stagger, or both. This includes one-handed (one half doesn't exist, what clearer delineation is that!?)

i.e. no regular non-split¹ row-stagger and no non-split¹ ortholinear²

¹ split meaning a separation of the halves, whether fixed in place or entirely separate, both are fine.
² ortholinear meaning keys layed out in a grid

No Spam

No excessive posting/"shilling" for commercial purposes. Vendors are permitted to promote their products/services but keep it to a minimum and use the [vendor] flair. Posts that appear to be marketing without being transparent about it will be removed.

Let's not get in the habit of posting promotional posts every day. I'm not sure what the limit should be but twice in as many days already feels too frequent. I'll leave this up today but I'll remove any more from you that come in the next 7 days. Once or twice per week seems a reasonable frequency as a starting place.

Maybe we could do a sticky promotional thread?

Yeah, IMO the promotional posts really got out of hand on the old subreddit. A certain manufacturer (who do make lovely cases) posted pretty comparable pics every 2 days or so. On the one hand I think we should nurture our vendor community, on the other hand I'd rather see this happening organically with users sharing their experiences with builds that they buy. I agree that a sticky thread would be a good solution, people who are interested could just follow that thread. To give it more freshness, maybe it could be a monthly Vendor news in [August, ...] thread where vendors could post.

I think the only exception should be made for announcements of things like new case files or GitHub repos with Gerbers (which can include a link to the vendor that made it). Only permitting that type of vendor posts outside the vendor thread would encourage vendors to make new source files available.

yeah, I totally agree and was actively brainstorming the best way to reign it in. I definitely think if we do it thread-wise it'd want to be a monthly/weekly post rather than a singular one. For that we'd need to look into having a bot do it though, I think. I think personally my comfort level is posts being fine, but no more than one per week. It's important to have a way to let vendors advertise, within limits, directly to those of us that also want to buy the kinds of things they are selling. This supports both the vendors and the consumers. But there is a balance to be had to prevent it getting spammy whilst also preventing it from getting so buried that people who might want it, miss it.

I like the thread idea but it'll take some setting up. I think for the mean time I'll add a limitation to once-per-week and see how we go.

What do people think about if the vendor is running a givaway/sale/etc.? is that a different enough tier of post that it's okay to make a separate post? or should also strictly be confined to a scheduled vendor thread still?

Might make a post about this asking wider opinions. Thanks for your input.

I think a giveaway is alright, sale I'm not sure of.

To be honest a standard build like this from a vendor does not add anything at all. Since it's a very well known keyboard with a standard plate case. It would be a different case if this was someone's first build.

And as said the promotional posts got really out of hand in the old subreddit and after it closed it started to appear in picture channels of almost every keyboard related Discord server, where otherwise pictures of fresh and new builds would be shared.

I get that vendors want to promote, but only seeing the same type of posts and not seeing a single user build of one of their products raises a red flag for me.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks.
