Firstly ~ I'm a huge fan of beeper! Can't wait for a paid tier to come out so I can support it. I recently got my partner on to beeper as well & I was wondering what platform do y'all prefer for messaging with other people also on beeper?

At the moment we're using WhatsApp via beeper (we were using WhatsApp before) ~ I'm considering moving to matrix on beeper, but it seems much less feature complete (Can't show her profile picture on it since rooms can only have one photo for everyone, typing indicator doesn't function, etc.) I'd like to move away from Meta-owned WhatsApp. What do you suggest?

Beeper is literally designed on Matrix. Every service uses Matrix bridges. Beeper has openly-stated that the end-goal is to get users to migrate to Matrix.

So yes, Matrix is the preferred comm method. Although using Matrix on Beeper's proprietary server is not ideal.

Is there a way to have separate profile pictures on the chat? I'd like them to see my picture & me to see theirs.

A matrix direct message ~ they don't seem to support DMs so instead it's a room!

You definitely can with Matrix (and I do). There's all sorts of profile info you can complete.

Whether the Beeper client supports that, I don't know. I uninstalled it several months ago.

If I can ask, what caused you to leave beeper?

Mostly constantly being logged out of the various services. Partly getting several warnings from Meta about "abuse" on my accounts. Partly the inability to use my own Matrix ID. Partly the inevitable paid future. Partly the sad reality that it's never going to work properly for iMessage. Partly myself just abandoning many of these services altogether.

It's just never going to be what I thought it would or could be.
