We have this phenomenon where I live where people won't leave your house. Just as they're getting up to go they'll start telling another story. They'll put their shoes on and have another tale to tell. Then with one hand on the door they'll be reminded of something else.

Please get out of my house. I love you, but go.

Image Transcription:

Everett and Mrs True are entertaining two guests. One of the guests stands to leave: "Well, True, I guess we'd better be going home."

Everett rises out of his chair, knocking it over: "I'm glad to hear you say that! I'm tired and sleepy and I have to get up early in the morning! For heaven's sake, don't sit down. Good night, GOOD NIGHT!!!!"

wait im so confused.

so everett is sayinf the former cop always bullied him when he was a cop. then he beat him up and then the dude returned to become a cop again.

initially i thoight this was intended by true like he wanted to be bullied again LMAOAOAO then i realised the dude probably wants to extract revenge for getting beat

that means we have true's first (????) worthy opponent ??? oooouuu not somebody standing up to everett. everett haters tgis is your time to SHINE

On June 28, 1919, the day this was printed, the Treaty of Versailles was signed in France ending the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers of World War I. That's the context for the "hun mine-layer" comment.

ATTENTION EVERREADIES.

You can also find comics on old newspapers that ran it. For example this one comes from the Library of Congress archive of the Ogden Standard:

Through that page you can also find a job as a stenographer with a cement company, or a 3-room apartment for rent ($35!), or "two milch cows" for sale, if you happen to be in Ogden UT in 1920.

I urge you to look for additional comics and post them.

Just hold this pose for a while until the cement sets good!

Ever the artist, Mr. True branches out into mixed media (cement and fool face).

Get up out of that so I can take one more punch at you!

Sadly, Everett would need to wait for the Fair Housing Act of 1968 for this landlord’s behavior to be federally illegal. It’s unclear what state Mr. True lives in (besides anger, obviously).
