Community of SimpleX Chat users – managed by the team.

SimpleX Chat is the first chat platform that is 100% private by design – it has no user identifiers of any kind and no access to your connections graph – it's a more private design than any alternative we know of.

Please ask any questions and make feature suggestions. Your ideas and criticism are very welcome!

Greetings. I exported my data from my iOS device and then put it in the default directory in Windows. When I run the simplex-chat command I get this error, what is the reason?

The post about v5.2: https://simplex.chat/blog/20230722-simplex-chat-v5-2-message-delivery-receipts.html

The app is available in all channels via the links on the website or via [GitHub release] – the main F-Droid repo is coming soon.

If you use Android, make sure to use the build 134 - the previous one had a database performance issue causing very slow message delivery.

Join our event on 7/27 at 17:00 UTC (6pm UK, 10am PT):

  • demo of the new desktop app 🚀
  • platform evolution:
    • what's coming for groups and communities.
    • why we don't plan read receipts for now.
  • demo how to host a server with dual public+tor address in Ubuntu VM, so that users who prefer to connect to onion addresses can communicate with you via your self-hosted server even if you don't use Tor - it's much simpler than you think.

Mark your calendar, the link to connect is coming soon, it won't require any registration.

You will be able to ask any questions in this SimpleX group: #SimpleX-Event-2023-07-27

like, if I send the QR code to someone I want to talk to via email, anyone intercepting this message will at the very least know my SimpleX address; same thing if I send it via messenger.

edit: let's assume we don't have an established and trusted channel. furthermore, they're not expecting this info.

I just wanted to say, as someone who has been reluctant to try and convert his friends and family to alternative communications platforms for years due to perceived shortcomings with all alternatives, I think SimpleX might just be good enough.

Thank you very much for the work on this amazing solution.

Hello

I'm trying to create a discussion between my Simplex application on my Android, and the Simplex CLI application on my Linux.

But either I don't understand how it works, or something isn't working.

On the cli version

version, I understand that you have to do

/c to create an address

it replies

/c

BROKER {brokerAddress = "smp://[email protected],xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxxxxx.onion", brokerErr = NETWORK}

is this all you have to paste on the Android side to be able to chat?

You can get the new version from GitHub, TestFlight, Play Store beta and our F-Droid repo!

Full release and the release announcement are coming on Saturday July 22nd.

We will host an online event on July 27 at 17:00 UTC (6pm UK, 10am PT) to talk about:

  • what's new in v5.2, why we won't have read receipts and what is coming soon
  • how we will solve the problems of groups and communities that are emerging on SimpleX platform
  • we will demo how to host a server with dual address (both clearnet and onion) in linux VM, so that users who prefer to only connect to onion addresses can communicate with you via your self-hosted server even if you don't use Tor - it's much simpler than you think.
  • we will answer all your questions too.

Online platform to connect to TBC, we'll make sure that it doesn't require any registration.

You will be able to ask any questions in SimpleX group, you can already join it now via this link #SimpleX-Event-2023-07-27

This relay will be migrated to the datacenter in the UK to reduce the latency for most users. The migration itself takes less than 30 minutes, the DNS changes propagate in 1-3 hours (based on tests we ran). The relay will remain available on the same hostnames but with a different IP address.

The migration will start from 4pm UTC.

If you use Tor, it will be available as soon migration is complete, within 30 minutes - we did such migrations before without announcing them.

If you use public Internet to connect SimpleX relays, it will become available as soon as DNS updates.

If you have some important contacts where you use smp10 relay to receive messages you can switch them in advance (it won't be possible to switch during migration).

I used to check Reddit regularly for communications from the devs. I hope to see the devs here soon.

You can use this alternative smp server

New in v5.1.3:

Fixed video calls on iOS!

Much faster group deletion.

New preset SMP servers - add them in server settings (they will become default if you've never saved server changes, that includes server test results though).

Many small fixes.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I was hoping that the desktop version and the mobile version would be able to sync messages between users without having to create multiple accounts. Is this even possible with SimpleX's current architecture? Aside from all that, I'm really liking SimpleX - clean, simple and SECURE!! =)

In this release there are a lot of code improvements and bugs solved. Now calls run well and "incognito" mode has been introduced: you have the Carnival mask this year! 🤡

More informations are available directly at GitHub project page.

In order to send files, text notes (what you want) to yourself for future uses it is possible create a secret group with only you locked inside. All inside the "memo" group is safely stored encrypted in your device. Enjoy! 💪
