In 1.60.0 of uBlock there is a new settings which is enabled by default: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Advanced-settings#dnsresolveenabled

Apparently it uses this dns API to resolve hostnames: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/API/dns/resolve

Does using this API introduce DNS leaks? And which takes precedense, the resolver mullvad uses or dns.resolve()?

I can login fine, but when I try to make a post, like a post, retweet, etc, it stops and says "Something went wrong, don't fret"

And then for a split second the url says "not a bot" and then redirects me back to the main feed, no post sent.

Anyone know what's happening?

I'm using Mullvad VPN and it works great, but now I'd like to use wireguard to connect to a VPS server to administer it. I know there's tailscale and other options, but is it possible to stay on mullvad vpn and connect to my server using plain wireguard?

Mullvad has split tunnelling, which lets you exclude certain apps from the VPN. All you need to do is add the .exe of the app you want to exclude—easy.

This doesn't work for Discord though. Why might you want to exclude Discord? Personally, I run into connectivity issues, higher ping, etc., so I don’t want Mullvad messing with Discord.

The issue with excluding Discord from the tunnel is that Discord stores its app files (including the .exe) in different folders depending on the version. So, the actual .exe is buried inside these version folders.

To get around this, you’ve got two options:

  1. Manually select the .exe inside the (current) Discord folder. But you’ll need to update Mullvad each time Discord updates, to make sure you’re excluding the correct .exe.
  2. Create a batch file that automatically updates a "symbolic link." A symbolic link is essentially a pointer to an existing file—in this case, the Discord .exe. After Discord updates, the symlink still points to the old version of the .exe, so the batch file updates the link to point to the latest version. Combine this with the Task Scheduler, and you can automatically update the symlink. Here's the process:
    • Write a simple batch file that creates or updates the symbolic link whenever Discord updates.
    • Add the symbolic link (not the actual .exe of Discord) to Mullvad’s exclusion list.
    • Set up Task Scheduler (on Windows) to run the batch file automatically, ensuring the link always points to the latest Discord version.

@echo off
setlocal

REM Path to the Discord folder
set "discordDir=C:\Users[user]\AppData\Local\Discord"

REM Find the latest app version folder
for /d %%i in ("%discordDir%\app-\*") do set "latestVersion=%%i"

REM Define the path to the symbolic link
set "symlink=%discordDir%\Discord\_Latest.exe"

REM Remove the old symbolic link if it exists
if exist "%symlink%" del "%symlink%"

REM Create a new symbolic link to the latest version
mklink "%symlink%" "%latestVersion%\Discord.exe"

echo Discord symbolic link updated to the latest version.

endlocal

A few final notes: I'm no batch expert, so I didn’t write the batch script itself. Nor did I come up with this solution on my own (a lot of heavy lifting by ChatGPT). I'm just sharing this since this is how I solved the problem, and I didn't see many solutions when I was looking for an answer, but I'm not in a position to guide anyone step-by-step. <3

I'm planning a trip to china next week and really need to use ChatGPT. Will Mullvad work? Or are there any other alternative VPNs for ChatGPT access?

I might be noob and asking a stupid question.

So the problem with my college wifi is that it blocks youtube and messaging apps. I cant use my personal mobile data in college because nobodys connection works inside the college building. So i thought i would use the college wifi but with a vpn so that i can bypass the wifi sites blocker by hiding what websites i am visiting.

But when i am connected to college wifi and try to connect Mullvad vpn to another country. It blocks the internet and keeps on loading and loading trying to connect.

What could be the issue and is there a way to fix it? or am i doing something wrong ?

As a long-time Mullvad user, I have nothing but respect for the company’s transparency, fair pricing, and commitment to privacy. Their dedication to open-source software, no-logs policy, and refusal to collect personal information puts them a step ahead of many competitors in the VPN space. It’s rare to find a service that truly aligns with its users’ values, and Mullvad consistently delivers on this front.

However, despite my admiration for the desktop apps, I have to express my frustration with the iOS app. Compared to the desktop experience, the iOS app falls short in some crucial areas, especially when it comes to security features. Most notably, it lacks a kill switch and the option to block local network (LAN) access. These are fundamental features for ensuring a high level of security, especially when the connection drops unexpectedly.

Recent security incidents, like the TunnelCrack vulnerability reported in 2023, highlight the importance of blocking LAN access while connected to a VPN. TunnelCrack demonstrated how attackers could exploit VPN users by tricking devices into sending traffic through local networks or unencrypted tunnels, bypassing the VPN entirely. Without the ability to block local network access, Mullvad’s iOS app leaves users exposed to these kinds of threats, especially on public Wi-Fi or shared networks.

I do understand that Apple places certain restrictions on VPN apps, and Mullvad’s hands may be tied to some extent. However, other VPN providers have managed to implement these features on iOS for years now, which makes me wonder if there’s a chance Mullvad could find a way to add them soon.

From what I understand, some of these issues might be solvable. For example, while there’s no kill switch, you can enable the Mullvad Proxy , which works as a partial solution. But until Mullvad adds the option to block LAN access directly within the app, users remain vulnerable to threats like TunnelCrack.

I truly hope Mullvad can find a way to overcome these limitations or work within the constraints to offer a more secure and feature-rich experience on iOS. Until then, while I’ll continue using and supporting them, the iOS app remains a significant weak point that needs urgent attention.

So far I've been in love with the VPN and the browser, I've recently switched from librewolf bc of mullvad's better fingerprint resistance. It's giving me some problems with 2FA and rendering some fonts, even if I put no-script as overriding its settings. I want to be able to turn off some of the privacy features from time to time and make this my daily driver browser

I can't send any messages on Mac unless I have the VPN off. I have verified testing this multiple times. Unless the VPN is off, no messages are sent.

How do I fix this?

I am on Sequioa.

UPDATE:

I will keep this post up and update as this gets crawled on Google.

10/7/24

  • iCloud private relay is off
  • No extra changes to Mullvad default config
  • Works on iOS no problem, absolute shit on MacOS

Since a few days ago, mullvad suddenly blocks the access of my SMB shares on my synology NAS.

Thing is, this has been working for ages no problem, i have set local network sharing to on and the nas is in the 192.168.0.0/16 network.

Could it have something to do with the recent KB5043145 windows update? Thats basically the only thing that has changed...

Like a few days ago, it occasionally started to lose connection, or seemly connected, but no data transmission . Then I had to wait twenty mins to a few hours for real connection back. Today just during two hours, this shit happened twice. What the heck is going on with mullvad ?

How do I configure Mullvad vpn so that I can do normal coding things? For example, if I try to install a NodeJS package from npm or yarn I get a DNS look up error: "Error: getaddrinfo EAI_AGAIN registry.yarnpkg.com". Additonally, if I make a curl command in the terminal, I get a cannot resolve address error. Ex:

curl -v https://www.google.com * Could not resolve host: www.google.com * Closing connection curl: (6) Could not resolve host: www.google.com

All of these issues go away when I disconnect from Mullvad. Is there a way to fix this? If it helps, I'm using ubuntu.
