I think the streaming with Xbox Cloud Gaming does not work on Firefox and requires a Chromium based or Safari browser. I believe the reason is because Firefox does not have an API for streaming games? Or the current implementation is not compatible with it. I read stuff like that in the past couple years and don't actually know why Microsoft does not support Firefox. So that would be a thing to put on a WOS: Wall Of Shame.

Did you see the video or is this a lucky coincidence? I refer to the video uploaded today: "I Used Proton Mail for 6 Months - Is it Good?" (18:37 min.) by The Linux Cast, watch on YouTube or Invidious on Dec 10, 2024

He explains a bit his experience and talks about switching from Gmail to Proton Mail. So you might be interested into watching.

From one of my memes (which compares the common 3 OS types): https://beehaw.org/pictrs/image/3ad94e0f-c145-4b1b-9a41-16f3ebcfee1b.webp

It will hurt the whole way down. Please don't climb.

Also implies that you can actually climb it (metaphorical for "learning") and has the option to stay above or climb down. Based on the image, its an art project that just stays there for you to explore.

Another serious suggestion is OpenSUSE. They have a rolling release (like Arch does) model distribution openSUSE Tumbleweed - https://get.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/ and another distribution more stable in a sense like Ubuntu releases versions, openSUSE Leap - https://get.opensuse.org/leap . openSUSE is seriously a good and reliable distribution that existed for long time, but is not too much well known in the entire Linux world. If I was not focused on Arch based distros recently, it would have been my choice probably.

Nyarch Linux

The perfect linux distribution for degenerated weebs.

It's based on Arch, therefore has my approval. I don't use it, just saw it in some Linux related comment mentioned recently (today in fact).

I personally use EndeavourOS - https://endeavouros.com/ , which is based on Arch and operates close to Archlinux, but has some automated stuff going on that helps people like me. Its so close to Arch, that I ask myself why I'm not switching to it entirely. Simple answer is: Don't touch a running system.

Well, there is not much to say and therefore I won't comment.

You can say what you want about the game, but that they make an offline mode for players who purchased it is commendable. At least game is preserved in this way. The only downside is, that nobody is allowed to buy the offline game from that point on. Hopefully they decide against de-listing it on Steam.

Right, but we need clowns. I accept any dumpster fire. :D No seriously, I agree with you. I didn't pay any attention to how severe the issue was and just made a list from recent known issues I've heard.

Those who did, can't tell anyone anymore.

A hilarious blog post of a studio who discovered there games are pirated. They even say

Of course, I would feel very bad if anybody paid $120 for a free game

This is a reminder to user sudoedit. Especially useful for Vim and Neovim users who have a rich and personal configuration.

sudoedit /etc/fstab

is also an option. sudoedit is a short form for sudo -e. It uses the default editor set int EDITOR or VISUAL variable. The difference to sudo vim FILE or sudo nano FILE is, that sudoedit FILE will use the editor configuration from the current user instead from the root. For me this makes a huge difference, because my plugins and settings for Neovim are not used when doing sudo vim.

Man page: https://linux.die.net/man/8/sudoedit

-e' The -e (edit) option indicates that, instead of running a command, the user wishes to edit one or more files. In lieu of a command, the string "sudoedit" is used when consulting the security policy. If the user is authorized by the policy, the following steps are taken:

  1. Temporary copies are made of the files to be edited with the owner set to the invoking user.

  2. The editor specified by the policy is run to edit the temporary files. The sudoers policy uses the SUDO_EDITOR, VISUAL and EDITOR environment variables (in that order). If none of SUDO_EDITOR, VISUAL or EDITOR are set, the first program listed in the editor sudoers(5) option is used.

  3. If they have been modified, the temporary files are copied back to their original location and the temporary versions are removed.

If the specified file does not exist, it will be created. Note that unlike most commands run by sudo, the editor is run with the invoking user's environment unmodified. If, for some reason, sudo is unable to update a file with its edited version, the user will receive a warning and the edited copy will remain in a temporary file.

I started to learn how to use FLTK in Rust this year, so its fair to assume this update is specifically made for me; its so obvious. FLTK is basically a suckless toolkit for GUIs, with the goal of being small, light and standalone without being complicated. It is very small and can be compiled into the app without runtime requirements. It has most common functionality you would expect from a toolkit and should work cross platform.

Happy to see this update! Need to experiment and learn more about it soon for my first FLTK app.

Reddit seems to use Ai to analyze images, so the content can be indexed by the search. In example I searched for my name (which is also used for the my blog) to see if there are recent posts with "thingsiplay", because I saw some spike in the stats. But what I instead found is a screenshot of a comment from me made in YouTube. There is no text attached to the post or title, so it must have analyzed the content, right?

Go down to the page and click the gun. Then you can pick up every element on the page, such as graphics and text. Put it in the bin or throw it around; the window wraps on left and right side (like if it is a Portal...). I find this really cool.

We are very excited to share the first release candidate for the long-awaited GIMP 3.0! We’ve been hard at work since our last development update to get this ready, and we’re looking forward to everyone finally being able to see the results.

So, what exactly is a “release candidate” (RC)? A release candidate is something that might be ready to be GIMP 3.0, but we want the larger community to test it first and report any problems they find. If user feedback reveals only small and easy to fix bugs, we will solve those problems and issue the result as GIMP 3.0. However, we hope and expect a much larger audience to try out 3.0 RC1 - including many people who have only been using 2.10 up until now. If larger bugs and regressions are uncovered that require more substantial code changes, we may need to publish a second release candidate for further testing.
