When you’re here, you’re here.

Yeah quick correction though: I mixed up my local diocese with a Long Island-centered diocese. They had 530 settlements totaling $323mill. Roughly $600k/ea

Wish it was more!

It’s too progressive for American Catholics in particular who are currently experiencing a serious identity crisis and infighting because of trumpism. It’s been wild to watch unfold. An archbishop just got excommunicated for schism idk 6mo ago?

As someone who keeps up with this and whose local diocese is also collapsing under the financial strain (good riddance) I can tell you firsthand a lot of settlements are actually pretty substantial. 6 and 7 figures over and over again.

It’s never enough, let’s be clear. But these aren’t slap on the wrist numbers when you add up the fact that it’s often hundreds of settlements per diocese. Pretty sure the diocese here has roughly 530 settlements they’re paying out right now. A billionaire has been helping them foot the bill but seems it hasn’t been enough.

It isn’t working! That’s the fucking problem lmao

When did I ever say protests don’t work? What are you talking about? I am saying this specific term did not prove to be good. In fact, it was VERY useful for the right wing media machine to easily twist words and distract from the end goal.

There are other tactics and verbiage that should be used.

I’m not gonna lie it really reads to me like you’re looking for holes and not seeking actual understanding

I’m honestly having a hard time getting a read on you. Are you playing dumb/sarcastic in an attempt to bait people into what you perceive as some sort of inconsistency? Or are you genuinely asking? Your tone is very confusing.

My comment was a little more tongue in cheek/flippant. The joke being “it’s a school so the American government doesn’t care about it.“

Who cares if it has sticking power if it’s produced no results? All that talk of reforming the police has completely evaporated, and that was before Trump was elected.

“Defund” was a terrible word to use and people need to stop using it. Frankly I thought it was already retired.

It’s a school. That’s why.

At my school everyone just casually used slurs like they were in a republican locker room

I don’t understand how what you’re describing is better. If you make the kid think he’s just gotten a PS5 then to take it away is incredibly cruel. Giving him a jersey is just insult cherry on the shameful cake. Unless I am misunderstanding what you’re proposing?
