Jesus. I remember thinking some of this but it was much hazier and confusing. Amazing that they could actually distill and post those ideas at that time.

It was such a WTF sort of experience. I don’t recall knowing what to do much less think about it but I wasn’t even 20 yet at the time.

I thought only one thing after it was apparent that we were under attack, "we're going to war". I was a reservist at the time and was pretty sure that meant I was going to war.

We were asleep. Phone (landline!) kept ringing, finally answered it to hear a friend shouting at us to turn on the TV. I think that was just after the second plane hit.

Same friend was calling everyone they knew saying they heard that every plane was remote controlled and that there would be "hundreds" more attacks. That was a very, very confusing time.

I was in college (in an Asian country) and most of us are 15 to 18-years-olds.

Our rector arranged a TV showing news (covering the incident live) in student common room. Not many students were there to watch.

I guess Doug was onto something.

“This is going to be a big turning point in the history and character of this country, I think.” Well predicted, Doug.

Doug and Rebeccablood fucked us. That's where the government got their ideas from.

Thanks for posting this. I’m a big MetaFilter fan, and that’s incredible to look back on and read. I was right across the East River when the attacks happened and out on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade when the second tower fell. I’ll never forget it….
