Fixing issues often costs money, banning things is pretty much free (enforcement can cost, but not all bans are enforced well). So for conservatives it‘s a low hanging fruit to look for some thing their voters dislike and ban, also makes them seem more "fiscally responsible" cause they don‘t have to spend money to help anyone, just ban some things and tada, they are doing something and their voters are happy (I guess?).
