We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

Just read the reviews. 75% positive isn't exactly great and the 4th review down seems to suggest the 5 year warranty is worth sod all:

Works well so far. Glad to have the instruction about formatting and finding it on your system.

Drive failed after a day of use. Amazon support refused to give contact for seller. So much for "5 year warranty by reseller".

I recently bought an 8TB drive with a 1yr warranty from Amazon Renewed (Amazon US), was impressed when it arrived and plumped for a 10TB with the 5 year warranty, again Amazon renewed (Amazon US). I try to avoid all 3rd party sellers on Amazon where I can as it simplifies things.
