We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

I've been buying all of my hard drives from GoHardDrive and Worldwide Product Importers.
I have bought a little over 20x at this point of various sizes (8TB to 12TB) and brands (WD, HGST, and Seagate), a few years later and they're all still running like clockwork. I also only buy NAS/enterprise grade drives.
You have to carefully read the listings, as some but not all will state a 1, 3 , or 5 year warranty on certain listings.
The hard drives always came with a warranty card that confirmed the warranty period and information on how to file a claim if needed.
