I have posted this already in the touring and bikepacking c's, but maybe people here like this too.

This is supposed to be something like couchsurfing for multi day bicycle travellers. There is a service like that already, warmshowers. This should now hopefully become the open source, actually non profit variant, they also want to include activitypub compatibility. I don't really understand how it all works or is planned to work yet, but at least I managed to sign up there

The project started after warmshowers killed off the community developed app for it, by people from the orbit around that community app. Kind of like how I ended up here on Lemmy when reddit killed of 3rd party apps.

For now it has very few members only and functionality is bare bones, no notifications yet and apparently no e-mail forwarding of requests etc, but messaging on the site itself should work.

I used to host people on warmshowers until I deleted my account there, were always interesting people. I would love to see this one become a success and look forward to host somebody soon.

Here is some more information about it: https://pad.kanthaus.online/sleepybikeproject?view#

Thank you. I will look at this. I was an early warmshowers member, when it was a paper list. Mostly I was a host. The hosting drifted to become free airbnb. I found myself resenting sponsored cyclists, cyclists clearly richer than me who expected food and availability, cyclists (most of them) who never left feed back. This last point is vital when you are hosting or staying with a stranger. And I really hated to pay for the app - this drive behaviour. People thought well I’m paying I should get something. So I left, sadly, as I left reddit sadly. I came here today because I am excited about some bike packing gear and I wanted to share. That’s what is nice about these communities. Who else would I tell?
Ok I’ll look at the info. D
